Including Family and Friends in a Paris Proposal Without Ruining the Surprise

Some couples want the proposal itself to be private, then have family or friends join right after for the celebration. Coordinating that across a trip abroad takes a bit more planning than a local surprise, but it is common and doable.
Decide the order of events first
Most couples in this situation keep the proposal itself intimate, just the two of them, and bring others in immediately afterward for a toast or dinner. Very few successfully hide a large group nearby during the proposal itself without it feeling staged or getting noticed.
Timing the reveal
If family is traveling separately, agree on a simple signal, a text, a call, anything unambiguous, that tells them exactly when to head to the celebration spot. Vague plans like "come by around 7" tend to create awkward waiting.
Video calls for family who could not travel
A growing number of couples set up a video call moments after the proposal so grandparents or close family who could not make the trip still get to see the reaction live, rather than a recap days later.

Keeping the secret from a group without slip-ups
The more people who know in advance, the higher the risk of an accidental slip. If several people are involved, tell each person only what they specifically need to know (a time, a location) rather than the full plan, which limits the damage if one person accidentally says too much.
None of this is required. Plenty of couples prefer to keep the entire day private and share the news afterward. It is simply an option worth planning properly if you want it.
